Trader Global Bank
Management Consultant NY Regulator
Head of Product FinTech start-up
 COO AdTech scale-up

Trader | Global Bank

Problem: fulfil the role of a head of AUD/NZD/CAD currency as a junior

Method: I learnt as much as possible from those around me, from my mistakes, and from trial and error

Secret sauce: ability to recognise the need to learn, but have confidence in the skills already attained and developing

Outcome: on-target budget (for a role at least 3 levels senior)

Management Consultant | NY Regulator

Problem: execute on a consultancy project with little subject knowledge

Method: interviewed experts and developed very specific knowledge before approaching the project, continued to develop knowledge during the project, including during meetings with MB-1 level staff

Secret sauce: ability to understand how to efficiently develop the right knowledge about the subject (targeted vs broad) to be able to use my analytical skills

Outcome: comprehensive report and advice on process, policy, and structural improvements for a top 10 global bank

Head of Product | FinTech start-up

Problem: identify the product fit for the $million seed-funded technology start-up

Method: analyse markets across finance, via both research and interviews, amidst the start of the pandemic; applied thought to the approach, execution, and style of analysis, namely an outcome that could be actioned (rather than an ineffective solution)

Secret sauce: ability to zone in on the critical elements (via both quantitative and qualitative skills)

Outcome: in the words of the board VC, “the best analysis we have ever seen across sectors”

COO | AdTech scale-up

Problem: structure and organise an organically-grown sales team and business

Method: met with each sales employee and the executive team to understand the existing struggles & successes and inherent strengths & weaknesses, as well as ensuring goals were aligned and communicated; created an appropriate org structure, including roles & responsibilities, and codified the culture to ensure it can be maintained with growth

Secret sauce: ability to ask questions to delve below the top layer and uncovered the real weak spots (as opposed to the perceived ones)

Outcome: the framework to grow and expand across Europe and increased investor confidence

Advisor | Mental Health start-up

Problem: expertise in the subject matter, but not in business

Method: a mixture of conversations, providing tools/resources, and creating work product

Secret sauce: ability to understand the current gaps and then provide the relevant guidance/nudges/hand-holding as appropriate

Outcome: company leaped forward to an established set-up able to reach out to partners and focus on the growth of the company

Operations Consultant | Neurodiversity app

Problem: lack of sustained momentum in development, since most had other full-time commitments

Method: understood the roles, expectations and challenges; built out a comprehensive organisational structure and OKRs to give clear direction

Secret sauce: ability to understand and strike the right balance, rather than just apply a “template”

Outcome: app and waiting list developed, CEO able to focus on growth

Mentor | Education start-up

Problem: hiring issue during the company’s early stage

Method: multiple conversations with the CEO to challenge their thinking and remind the CEO of the obligations to the company

Secret sauce: ability to consider the bigger picture, both as it relates to the present and future implications, and stay strong within that role

Outcome: successful hire following an extraordinary due diligence process due to the situation
